RESPIRATORY THERAPY
By using various forms of artificial or mechanical ventilation, respiratory therapists assist patients who have trouble breathing when their lungs are not functioning correctlydue to disorders in the lungs or any other organ. Their patients range in age from elderlypeople with lungdisase to preterm infants with underdeveloped lungs. Additionally,they offer emergency care to people who are experiencing shock, drowning, heart attacks, or strokes. The practice of respiratory therapy is supervised by a physician. They might be employed in ICUs, sleep labs, pulmonary function labs and rehabilitation centres. Respiratory therapist is a versatile part of the healthcare delivery system.
RELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
Candidates to be eligible for admission to the Allied Health Sciences should have passed the qualifying examinations after period of 12 years of study with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology with minimum 45% marks in each subject (Academic / Vocational Stream).
DURATION– 4 years (including internship)
SCOPE
- Respiratory Therapists: Help patients with cardiopulmonary problems. They evaluate, perform diagnoses on patients, assess the patient’s breathing, suggest exercises, and monitor the patient’s progress.
- Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT): Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education.
- Pulmonary Function Technician: Conduct tests on patients to help physicians with the technical aspects of diagnosing and treating lung disease.
- Consultant Pulmonologist Assistant: Specialized in the respiratory system and treat respiratory diseases
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist: Take care of patients diagnosed with asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, angina, coronary artery disease, and other conditions
